Bit Tongue And Jaw Injury, Unable To Chew Or Swallow, No Swelling. What Could Have Happened?
My 20 yr old son was playing basketball and while coming down from a layup he bit his tongue when another kid's head hit him under his jaw. this happened 4 days ago and he cannot eat as chewing and swallowing are very painful. not sure if he should see a doctor . there is no swelling and he has been taking 3 motrin (200 mg ea) - he's eating yougurt, icecream, & protien shakes..
I read your query regarding difficulty in swallowing after hit at chin of your son a day back.
These types are injuries are quite common in basket ball, here actually anterior part of tongue is being crushed between teeth of both jaw, in such injuries tongue muscles are being crushed therefore tongue movement becomes painful thus speaking and swallowing becomes painful. Unfortunately in such injuries no external facial swelling is observed.

Bit Tongue And Jaw Injury, Unable To Chew Or Swallow, No Swelling. What Could Have Happened?
Hello Welcome in H.C.M. for query. You may give your child- 1- Soft diet. 2- Warm saline mouth wash. 3- Analgesic tab containing Diclofenac (50 mg) and Serratiopeptidase (15 mg). 4- Take rest. I hope this will help him. Regards.
