Bladder Sling Surgery, Hysterectomy, Rectal Repair Done. Still Have Frequent Urination Problem. Is It Normal?
I had bladder sling surgery, historectomy and rectal repair done in June of this year. I still have frequent urination and am awake almost every 2 hours at night. Is this OK? My Dr. said this would subside in about 6 months and I would be back to normal. I drink 6 to 8, 8 oz. glasses of water per day. Not after 6 P M. Should I be worried? Thank you in advance for your response.
Hi, welcome to HCM, Frequency of urine including Nocturia is a common complication after Sling surgery. Your Doctor must have counselled you before operation for the possibility of this symptom. Hopefully it would be fine with time. besides restricting your water after 6PM, you might also be restricting other fluids like caffeine and Alcohol. During day time also you should drink only half glass or less water at a time, but frequently. In that way you will not overdistended your bladder, which can weaken muscle strength. Do pelvic floor exercises . I would advise you to do some bladder training exercises also. If nothing helps, you may be prescribed some medicines also to control your overactive bladder. Hope i have answered your question. Dr H Hamdani
