General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, * The insertion bleeding irregularity is possible after Mirena. once you are adjusted to the device, the periods get lesser/fainter/ may completely stop * It's effect expires by 3 to 5 years. ( Depending on the type used.) If you had one with 3 years expiry, the possibility of pregnancy can not be denied. Urine/blood pregnancy test would clear the thing. * If Mirena with 5 years expiry was inserted, The lower pelvic pain, headache(? fever),frequent potty breaks seen in pelvic inflammation/ displacement of IUD need to be examined..Please get an expert Gynac's advice&pelvic ultrasonography if advised by the doctor ,to clear the doubt / have a treatment. Thank you.
