Bleeding At The Back Of Throat After Getting Wisdom Teeth Pulled Out. Taking Antibiotics. Matter Of Concern?

my daughter just had her wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday. She is bleeding, but not all the time down the back of her throat. The doctor said she sneezed at one point after waking up and this caused it. He gave her an antiobotic to stop any infections, but what I read about posterior nose bleeds concerns me. If it's not all the time, but two days later, should I be concerned at this point.

Hi,
It seems that after deep sneezing blood clot on extrected tooth is removed leading to bleeding coming out through mouth and from the nose.
Consult dentist and he will put gauze pack on bleeding part for half an hour and bleeding will be stopped.
Afterwards do not allow her for gargles or spitting for few hours.
If she feels some bleeding coming out ask her to swallow.
Ok and take care.

Hello & welcome,

Bleeding after removal of wisdom tooth can be due to dis-lodgement of the clot which is formed in the extraction socket.

Here the clot might have been removed due to sneezing & if it is so, then you should take your daughter to the dentist. He will replace the gauze pack & bleeding will definitely be stopped.

She should take care of the wound by not doing any gargles as it may dislodge the clot again.

Use of ice pack application externally may help in the situation to reduce the bleed. Ask her to swallow any bleed if it comes & not to spit.

Take care.

hello,
yes, the bleeding might be caused due to dislodgement of blood clot (due to vigorous rinsing, spitting, lying down flat, use of a straw, etc).

some of the post extraction precautions which required to be followed are-
1. bite firmly on the gauze piece placed by the dentist for 1hour

2. after 1 hour, remove the gauze piece and eat icecream or place ice-bag on cheek near the site of extraction for 5 minutes. repeat this procedure for two days atleast 4-5 times a day.

3. avoid gargling, use of straw, smoking, hot and spicy food for 3 days.

4. take medications as directed.

5. start having food, until the effect of numbness wears off.

6. take enough rest for atleast 24 hours after extraction. while lying down, elevate your head slightly.

7. drink plently of fluids during the healing phase.

8. start rinsing gently with warm salt water after 2 days.

if symptoms still persist, then visit a dentist.

take care
