Blister On The Arm With Bleeding After Having An Ice And Salt Burn. Using Neosporin. What Else To Do?
My daughter had put salt and ice on her arm with a friend for some ridiculous game...her forearm has about a four in long to a one inch wide burn on it which blistered. This happened last wed. The blisters have broken...and now part is open and light pink and has bled a little. The rest is a purple/dark pink color. I have been applying neosporin on it generously throughout the day, everyday since. Is there something else I should do? And are there any long term affects I should be concerned with?
Hello,
Welcome to health care magic.
You should treat your daughter's wound just like a burn. We dermatologist are not very keen on neosporin as we see a lot of allergic reactions to it. Apply Silver sulphadiazine cream (silverex) over the wound. keep area clean and dry. Avoid excessive sunlight exposure over the area. If the infection is developing which is characterized by pain and redness and swelling it is better to take a course of oral antibiotics. For that you need to show a doctor.
Once the wound totally heals you can start to apply a sunscreen with high spf( 30 or more) every 3 hrs in the morning and a cream containing kojic acid or allantoin at night to prevent post burn pigmentation.
Hope this helped

hi
your daughter seem to have developed blisters due to cold injury,,,,
i would advice you to keep the area clean ...wash with water or some antiseptic solution twice a day and apply some antibiotic cream over the affected area...Do not apply any moisturizing creams/lotions /oils over the affected region...wear cotton clothes and protect the area from dust...
Once the lesion heals up completely ie in about 2-3 weeks ,then according to the kind of scar that is formed, further treatment can be given
hope it helps
