Blood Tests Done. Should I Take Lovastatin?

Do I need to take statins? In 2011, I was on 10 mg of lovastatin. My blood profile was as follows: CHOL T: 234 LDL: 137 HDL: 44 Lipids TRIG: 263 In 2012, I had a heart attack and a stent put in. My cardiologist prescribed 40 mg of lovastatin, carvedilol, Plavix, and Coreg. I then went on a strict vegan diet per Dr. Esselstyn. After 6 months, I went off carvedilol, Plavix, and Coreg; and went down to 10 mg of lovastatin per day. My blood profile is now as follows: CHOL T: 114 LDL: 56 HDL: 33 Lipids TRIG: 126 Do I still need to take the lovastatin at all?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the past medical conditions you have suffered from. The present numbers look great and honestly do not justify further treatment with lovastatin. However, we do not know to what extend lovastatin has helped to drive down these values.. Stopping is not a bad idea but you should talk with your cardiologist before doing so. This will enable him to follow you up over time and reinstate the drugs if the numbers start rising again. However, if the numbers should remain stable, then you most likely do not need these medications going forward.

I hope you find this helpful. Thank you so much for using our services and please do feel free to ask for clarifications if need be. I wish you the best of health.
