hello and welcome,
usually bone plating ensures sufficient rigidity across the
fracture site to obviate the need for intermaxillary fixation.
according to your quiery, its clear that the plating has not done properly.
in such cases, compression plates are used, which will provide extremely rigid fixation and the
bone healing takes place without the formation of intermediate
callus.
whenever the compression plates are applied to the convex surface of mandible at its lower border, there is tendency for the upper border and lingual plate to open up with the final tightening of the screw.
this leads to distortion of occlusion as well as opening of fracture line.on the other side,in case of bilateral
fractures.
to avoid this,a tension band in the form of arch bar or miniplates is applied at the upper border.
take great care not to open mouth so widely.as it can cause tempormandibular joint dislocation.you cnn also do certain mouth exercises and
physiotherapy as well.
