Broken Right Ankle Lower Fibula Bone, Swelling, Purple Toes
I broke my right ankle lower fibula bone march 19,2012 had a case put on march 26,2012 the case was removed April 26,2012 the bone was not completly healed I was told to use a air case and no pressure for 4 more weeks I still have a lot of swelling of the ankle, foot ,toes, still purple how long will it be swollen and what to do about it.
1. Usually fracture of fibula upto 8 cm from the lower end warrants surgery if not displaced. Since u have applied cast for 1 month and still having swelling in ankle, foot & toes this indicates that inflammation is still there around the fracture site,
2. Apply crepe bandage starting from toes and ending just below the knee for about 3 weeks with strict non-weight bearing walking using walkers,
3. Keep your legs elevated over 1-2 pillow(s) for 3 weeks,
4. In case you develop fever, then i would advise you to get your ankle re-examined by an orthopaedician to rule out infection / cellulitis
