Bruise, Headache And Yellow Watery Fluid From Nose After Head Injury. Should I Be Concerned?

Hello, I hit my head earlier on a solid Woden pillar, I had a bump and still have a very little one that feels bruised. I have a very slight head ache but what s made me worry is a bent over about 3 hours after the accident and had a yellow watery fluid just drop out of my nose for about 5mins and has now stopped. Should I be concerned?? Thank you Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I am Dr. Deepak, I work in Emergency Department, where I see many patients with injury to their head. As you mentioned you had injured your head on a solid wooden pillar. you have sight headache. You also had yellow coloured watery fluid drop out of your nose for 5 mins, which has stopped and it started 3 hrs after the injury
I feel you had sustained minor injury to your head, I can say that as
1. You didn't had any dizzy feeling and blurring of vision.
2. You didn't had vomiting even though you had nausea.
3. You didn't loose consciousness.
4. You are not feeling any numbness or weakness of any one side of your body
5. You are not having any bluish discoloration around your eyes and behind the ear
6. You are not having any trouble with walking.
And the most important thing is you are pretty much okay right now.
If you face any of the above mentioned problem within 24-48 hrs, then you can show to the Doctor, who can examine you.
You didn't mention which area did you injured you head?
If you injured the head close to base of nose, which is between two eye, then I would recommend you to see a doctor. He can examine you and tell if there is a fracture of nasal bone.
But If you injured any other area of head, Then there is no need to worry about it, Its mostly discharge from the sinus of the nose.
For the time being you can take some pain killer and apply some ice pack to the injured area.
Thank you
Hope your concern was dealt with and hope you have a speedy recovery.
