CT Scan Report Showing Nodules In The Lungs. Greenish Phlegm. Chances Of Benign Nodules?
Hi my mum is 64 and has just had a ct scan done the results showed 2 nodules in the left lung , the consultant has referred her to another hospital who specialise in lungs . We have concerns as mum has been given numerous ani biotics and sent away time passes quick so hopefully if cancer is present it is early days . Her symptoms are slightly different where a constant green yellow spit has never left reading recently about T B could it be possible to have this and hopefully benign nudgles ?? As she hasn't had any speculum tested or bloods .
Hello
Welcome to healthcaremagic
It is difficult to say wether the lung nodules are benign or malignant. If there is history of smoking then chances of having malignant nodule in 64 year patient becomes high.
If there are certain features in CT scan like diffuse or laminated calcification, smooth margin , no ground glass component ,and stable over serial CT scan it is suggestive of benign nodule. However expert will evaluate her and give definitive diagnosis. If the scans are equivocal or need of tissue diagnosis is felt;she need to undergo needle biopsy for definitive diagnosis.
PET-CT scan is an important investigation which can be sometimes used for definitive diagnosis of lung nodules.
