Calves Paining. No Previous Health Issues, No Varicose Veins. Suggestions
My calves ache from climbing one flight of stairs and are painfully heavy when I stand for long periods. This has been an ongoing problem for a couple of years. I am a 43 year old woman of ideal weight. No previous health issues. I do have varicose veins. I don't smoke. The pain in my legs affects my ability to exercise too.

Hi !
From your history it appears to be a case of deep vein thrombosis. You can use compression hosiery for the relief of pain. Also you need to take frequent breaks for resting your calves if your work involves standing for prolonged periods of time.
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. The description of your symptoms goes in favour of "Neurogenic claudication" which usually results from Lumbar canal stenosis. Pain and heavyness in the calves will also be seen in Vascular claudication but typically the pain should come down once you stop walking. I suggest you to have a detailed evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon and undergoing MRI scan that will rule out spinal causes. A general surgeon should evaluate the vascular status in your limb. Hope this helps
