Came Off Effexor, Had Panic Attacks, Long Bouts Of Crying. Taking Tylenol, Lorazepam. How Long Will It Last?

I have been coming off of Effexor 150 for a couple of months now and the last pill was taken Sunday, October 13, 2013. I have had panic attacks ...huge and long lasting bouts of crying...what can I do to help with these symptoms .. at the current time I take 2 Tylenol morning and evening and one 0.05 Lorazepam morning and night ... still having symptoms .. how long will these miserable symptoms last? I have felt like I was coming down with a cold for about a week now and not sure if that is just part of the withdrawal symptoms. PLEASE help me !

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

I am of the opinion that Efexor should not have been withdrawn by your doctor. Also, Tylenol has no role in Panic reactions.

I therefore recommend that Efexor SR should be started again with 75mg/day, and after a week, be increased to 150mg.

Further, the dose of Lorazepam should initially be increased to 1mg twice daily and, gradually increase the dose till desired relief occurs.

Lastly, withdrawal symptoms occur if Efexor is stopped abruptly or, the dose is tapered off too fast.

Please discuss the case with your Psychiatrist, who knows what would be best for you.
