Can Amitriptyline And Clonazepam Be Taken Together?

I have a new script for amitriptyline oral, but I already take 4X/DAY clonazepam oral IT shows drug interactions between these two: amitriptyline oral and clonazepam oral both increase sedation. It sounds like the doctor gave me the wrong med. I was supposed to get something for IBS. I could die in my sleep from those two combinations. Please explain?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Amitriptyline is a proven molecule used to relax the gut in anxious patients. Though, both of the Amitriptyline as well as Clonazepam can raise the level of sedation, can be used together without any severe ill-effects.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
