Can Amlodipine Be Used As An Alternative For Lisinopril For A Heart Patient?

My husband has been on 10 mg of lisinopril for 2 years after a major heart attack. He does not necesssarily have blood presssure issues but was prescribed it to help with the prevention of another major heart event. he has ran out and we are waiting on the refill to be faxed in. Can he take amlopidine or metaprolol as a substitute until his lisinopril is filled this week? i knew neither one of them were an ACE inhibitor. Please advise. Thanks in advance for taking time to answer. Sincerely Lisa

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there I have read through your question and would like to tell you that lisnopril can be substituted with Amlodipine but care should be taken to monitor his blood pressure regularly as the body may take time to adjust to Amlodipine. It would be advisable to discuss with your physician regarding the dose of Amlodipine. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
