Can Armour And Lugol, Or Iodoral Or TRi-Ionide Be Taken To Treat Thyroid?
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and I am using Armour, 30 mg per day. After 8 weeks of using it I did TSH/T3/T4 blood test and the result was positive. The numbers are much better comparing with the numbers 6 weeks ago. But I am still losing hair and weight gain:( I heard some doctors talking about the LUGOL solution 5%/ IODORAL/ or TRI-IODINE to use to support my thyroid. Do you think that I can take armour and some of Lugol, or Iodoral or TRi-Ionide?? rgs.
I understand that you are suffering from Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Hypothyroidism is a common problem and very easy to treat without any complicated treatment regime. It is treated with Levithyroxine tablets to be taken once a day, with starting dose of 1.6 ug/kg. We generally check thyroid functions, 6 weeks after starting the thyroid hormone medication.
Though some patients are happy with Armour thyroid, let me bring to your notice that most endocrine organizations including the American Thyroid Association DONOT RECOMMEND ARMOUR THYROID. Lugol solution and all the other iodine preparations you have written ARE NOT RECOMMENDED and potentially harmful. I would advise you not to unnecessarily harm your self by taking medications which may be potentially harmful when an easy treatment is available.
