Can Aspirin Cause Dry Mouth?

Are there any known side effects from low dose aspirin 81 mg/per day? My mother has been battling dry mouth and this is the only medication it seems that can be causing this problem. She does not have high blood pressure. If the dry mouth side effect is common with this medication, should she still continue the low dose aspirin daily regimen?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Aspirin in low dose of 80 mg/ day doesn't cause dry mouth. Dry mouth is due to reduced saliva production by salivary glands & can be due to many causes as follow
1 Patient taking medications such as diuretics, anti-hypertensive medicines, anti-depression medicines, atropine, etc
2 Mouth breating can cause dry mouth
3. Lack of salivary function Post-radiotherapy, old age, etc
4. As a systemic syndrome such as Sjögren's syndrome, sicca syndrome etc.
5. It could also be psychological

So you should visit a oral Physician for complete checkup & proper diagnosis of problem. Aspirin should not be stopped as this may be given for its anti-platelet action.

Hope this helps

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Dry mouth does not seems to e a frequent side effect of aspirin and you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a he can look for other frequent causes of dry mouth like mouth breathing, salivary gland disorders, nerve damage, oral infections like Thrush, allergies etc..
As of now you can start chewing sugarfree chewing gums for stimulating saliva flow and improve dry mouth..
You can also suck tart candies..
You can also drink plenty of water..
You can also gargle with specialized mouthwash that is suitable for dry mouth like Biotene..
Maintain a good oral hygiene..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
