Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My nephew is 23 yrs. of age and has been diagnosed with mildly prominent cardiac silhouette and a shadow on his lung. He is taking aspirin daily until he goes for his Dr. s appointment next week. He felt no symptoms. He has been going to the gym and jogging on the treadmill for about an hour. He is overweight, don t know his exact weight and he is approx. 6.4 tall. What should he do and is it ok that he take aspirin? Thank you, Nina
Hello Nina! I had gone through your query and understand your concern. Aspirin is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) effective in treating fever, pain, and inflammation in the body. It also prevents blood clots (i.e., is antithrombotic). Aspirin, inhibits the function of platelets in a manner that is different from other NSAIDs, and its antithrombotic effects last longer than other NSAIDs. This is why aspirin is used for preventing heart attacks and strokes.
I think his doctor prescribe him Aspirin to prevent blood clots that may happen due to his cardiac condition.
Hope I was able to help you. Take care. Dr.Rovena
