Hi my name is Lisa and I have a question. I have a boil that came about once my cycle started back from having a c section 6 weeks ago. Luckily I had my check up today and my ob prescribe me some Bactrim 2 times a day and twice daily for 10 days. my question is how effective is it on boils and how long before it clears up.
Hello Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Bactrim ingredients are Sulfamethoxazole +trimethoprim (400 mg + 80 mg ) is a most potent antibiotics of sulfa group. Usually boils are due to streptococcus or staphylococcus bacteria and this drug kills these bacteria . Beside this it is also effective against numerous pathogens ( bacteria) so your doctor prescribe this drug. Usually five days are sufficient for successful treatment but for precaution your doctor prescribed for 10 days ( complete coverage , so don't recur ). Good luck. Dr. HET
