Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Beta Carotene casue dry moth. I have been taking 25,000I.U. s of Beata Carotene for a few weeks now,. About three weeks ago I woke up with a very dry mouth and the condition has continued to today. I discontinued taking the Beta Carotene yesterday.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.
As per your complain beta carotenes has not been seen to commonly cause dry mouth so whether dry mouth in your case is being caused with it or any other causes should be ruled out first before you decide to discontinue taking beta carotene.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral physician and get evaluated and he can look for the causes of dry mouth like yeast infection known as thrush, salivary gland disorders, nerve damage etc and treatment of the cause will relieve the symptoms.. As of now you can suck on lemon drops, sour candies and chew sugar free chewing gum for stimulating saliva flow.. Drink plenty of water.. Saliva substitutes like Artificial saliva drops can be taken to relieve dry mouth.. Limit the use of mouthwash as it also cause dry mouth.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora
