Can Bulimia Be The Reason For My Tight And Uncomfortable Chest?
For the past week or so I ve noticed that my chest feels really tight and uncomfortable. I m really worried and don t know what to do, could it be serious? I ve had trouble with bulimia for quite a few years and I think it may have something to do with it.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, bulimia can cause these symptoms, not directly but indirectly. Bulimia is known cause for GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). This GERD causes laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. Because of this the acid of the stomach tends to come up in the esophagus and cause symptoms of burning, pressure and tightness in the chest. So we should first treat your bulimia. Hence consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions. Try to control your eating habits. Don't eat large meals, instead take frequent small meals. Start proton pump inhibitor (pantoprazole) on empty stomach for GERD. Don't worry, you will be alright. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
