Can Cephalexin Be Used Ffor Treating UTI?

I have suffered from bacterial tonsillitis for almost 2 weeks. 1 week of cefalexin and it seemed clear but within 5 days came back. On day 5 of second set of cefalexin and it is a lot better but no change in theast day and still puss. Now starting to feel uti symptoms despite taking cranberry tablets 3 times a day for the past 2 months as a preventative. If i have a UTI will the cefalexin help clear it? I have an unopened bottle of cystex d mannose and wondering whether to try that too?? Sick of all the medication this last 6 months for tonsills and utis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think your urinary symptoms is a side effect of Cephalexin. To me, it might be urethritis induced by antibiotics, in other words possible candida overgrowth. To me, should continue taking cranberry (including Cystex as it contains cranberry too). Plus, take oral probiotics, keep good genital hygiene. If it will still continue, should see your caring doctor to start anti-candida treatment. Meanwhile, try to drink plenty of water and juice, and tea.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
