Chlorpromazine is a psychiatric drug which belongs to the group of medications known as phenothiazine anti-psychotics that is used to treat certain mental disorders like schizophrenia,
psychotic disorder,
bipolar disorder, behavioral problems in children etc. It is also used to treat and control nausea, vomiting, prolonged hiccups, anxiety, tetanus etc. Drowsiness is one of common side effects of Chlorpromazine.
Other side effects are dizziness,
lightheadedness, dry mouth,
blurred vision, tiredness, constipation, weight gain, trouble sleeping, decreased sweating, stuffy nose, difficulty in micturition, allergic reactions etc. Other medications like Haloperidol, Baclofen or Metoclopramide also can be used to treat prolonged hiccups.
