Can Ciprofloxacin Be Taken For Bladder Infection While Suffering From Breast Cancer?

I have stage 4 breast cancer. I now have a bladder infection, and my doctor has prescribed Ciprofloxacin. Will this be o.k, since I am disturbed to read of the side effects now & future. What alternative antibiotic would be effective without all the possible side effects.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Quinolones like Ciprofloxacin or Norfloxacin are the drug of choice for treating bladder or urinary tract infection.
What your doctor has prescribed is fine and I feel you need to take the medication in the prescribed dose and course as suggested.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards.,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
