Can Clexane Be Taken Safely For Pulmonary Embolism During Pregnancy?
Hi, I m 14 weeks pregnant and 3 weeks ago - I had to get a cyst removed from my left ovary. I developed a pulmonary embolism and will now be on clexane for the duration of the pregancy. I ve checked with the doctors and the blood thinner shouldn t effect the baby at all. I m just wondering if there will be any risk to the baby and will I still be able to breast feed?
Clexane is absolutely safe in pregnancy and will not affect your baby .It is infact given in cases of recurrent abortion to prevent miscarriage. In your case it will be necessary for you to take it to prevent another event of embolism ,as embolisms are more likely due to pregnancy also you will need to continue this medication till at least 3 months after delivery . It is safe to breast feed while taking Clexane. Also be cautious when you start labour to avoid taking Clexane and inform the OB immediately about when you have taken the last dose of clexane as it can cause excess bleeding during delivery .
Hope this helps. Regards
