Can Clindamycin 150mg Cause Allergy In A Person Allergic To Amoxicillin?
Hello. I had a tooth pulled a week ago. It got infected so my dentist prescribed me clindamycin 150 mg 2 pills 3 times a day. I am scared to take it because I am allergic to amoxicillin. Also I've taken naproxen a few years ago and my tongue went numb. Should I take these pills?
As per your complain if you are Allergic to Amoxicillin, you should not fear about taking Clindamycin as both these antibiotics belong to different class of drugs. Amoxicillin belongs to Penicillin group while Clindamycin belong to Lincosamide group of antibiotics. So both are different and it is not necessary that you will have allergy to Clindamycin too.
But in case if you find any side effects or allergy symptoms immediately stop taking Clindamycin and consult your dentist. Also if you had problems with Naproxen you can take other medications like Tramadol or Hydrocodone. So continue with the medication and keep a watch on any symptoms if they occur and proceed accordingly under supervision of your dentist.
Hope your query is resolved. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
