Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I am not sure how far along I am but I am prescribed gabapetin 600 mg I have been taking on n off as needed is it safe for the baby I am in first trimester, also before I found out I was pregnant I was smoking cigarettes n still am, also before I knew I was pregnant was taking ibuprofen n aleve can u please give me advice..I know I am still pregnant and don t want to harm my baby
Using on gabapentin and pregnancy: there are no adequate data on developmental risks associated with use in pregnant women; in nonclinical studies in mice, rats, and rabbits, the drug was developmentally toxic (increased fetal skeletal and visceral abnormalities, and increased embryofetal mortality) when administered to pregnant animals at doses similar to or lower than those used clinically.
Smoking and taking NSAIDs as ibuprofen may lead to fetal cardiac and developmental defects. Please consult your gynecologist they search for the defects of your baby, and they treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
