Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife was prescribed gabapentin 300 mg capsule 1 a day 1st week & 2 a day 2nd week. She took 1 this morning @ 11:00 will it hurt to take another this evening she is having more pain & I probably should have waited till tonight to give it to her so she can sleep. It did help today.
Gabapentin is usually taken for peripheral neuropathic pain and paraesthesia. Usually, the medication is started on a low dose once a day. If there is no improvement, in two to three weeks time, the dose can be increased to twelve hourly. The capsule is to be taken after food. The medication is usually taken till complete resolution of the symptoms. It is also important to diagnose and manage the cause of the neuropathy, which could be due to diabetes Mellitus, lumbar disc prolapse and nerve compression, or any other cause of nerve damage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
