Can HIV Contract Even Though That Person Is Healthy?
i have had the following symptoms for a few months now. nausea, breast tenderness, cramping, fatigue and now heartburn. i had a tubal ligation 11 years ago and have my period every month although recently its not as heavy as it was in the past.( i have very very heavy periods that last 7-9 days) so i very much doubt i am pregnant. in addition to all this my husband is hiv positive. he is on his antivirals taking them regularly and all his lab results show that he is very healthy. is is possible i have contracted hiv?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. Nearly 30-40% of spouses of HIV positive remains HIV free in spite of their regular sexual contact with their HIV positive husbands and are called as Sero-discordant couple. Moreover when your husband's viral load is below undetectable level, as he is already on ART, the chances of HIV transmission in negligible. It depends upon the viral load of your husband and some other factors. Symptoms are not specific for HIV and it could be due to various other reasons including pregnancy.
