Can Hydrocodone, Cortisone Shots, Lipoter And Percocet Be Taken Together?

I think my boyfriend at 77 yrs old is addicted to hydrocodone since he has had 2 back surgeries the past 2 yrs and still on the pain meds. He says now he is taking them for his shoulder, which dr has given him shots cortisone shots. I think he is bipolar and and has mood swings with yelling. He also takes blood pressure meds and was taking lipoter and sometimes muscle relaxers. He was taking Percocet for back pain since surgeries but only takes it now for intense pain. I think taking hydrocodone at bedtime .

Hello,

Hydrocodone has addictive potential. All the four drugs hydrocodone, cortisone shots, Lipitor and Percocet can be taken concomitantly. But it's not necessary to take all the 4 medications just for pain relief. As he is 77 year old, it's better to avoid NSAIDs so ask him to avoid Percocet. Any way he uses it only during intense pain.

1) As he already had cortisone shots, pain will be on the lower end. So only hydrocodone would be enough
2) Lipitor can be taken it's not any pain medicine but it inhibits cholesterol synthesis. So no problem at all
3) Hydrocodone should be slowly tapered by reducing the dose
4) Mild exercise daily for 30 min for at least 5 days a day is recommended to maintain a healthy lifestyle

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
