Good afternoon, I have a question about myomas and the contraceptive pill please? I have a myoma of 2.8cms, in my recent checkup I was told that I have to stop taking the pill. However I am travelling in a foreign country and Iäm not sure if this information is to be trusted. I take Microgynon and I would like to continue taking the pill. Kind regards Emelie
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It is better to avoid birth control pills when you are suffering from fibroids (myoma). Birth control pills contain female hormones estrogen and progesterone and fibroids respond to these hormones. So pills definitely make me myomas larger in size. So it is better to avoid birth control pills and go for alternative contraceptive methods like IUDs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
