Can I Get Rabies By Touching Wetness Of Bat Saliva?
Hello, I am worried about rabies. Saturday evening I was in my attic looking for a toy and I grabbed a bag that was had a drop of wetness on the top of it. My first thought was that the roof must have leaked, but then my thoughts turned to wondering if it was bat pee or bat saliva on the bag. Could I get rabies from touching the wetness if it was bat saliva? I washed my hands right away and didn't have any noticeable cuts, but did have some dry skin. Please help...the anxiety is driving my crazy....my family thinks I'm being paranoid and I kind of agree with them, but I just want to make sure.
Hello.Welcome to healthcaremagic.Gone through your history carefully. Brief answer: No. Detailed answer:You can't get rabies infection by just touching saliva,as usual mode of transmission is through bite of a rabid animal, injecting the infected saliva.Transmission through intact skin is not possible although rare cases of transmission through mucous membranes(eye, mouth, nose) had been documented by contamination with infected saliva. So you need not be worried. If any other doubts, happy to answer you.Take care.
