Can I Reduce Dose Of Human Mixtard When Sugar Level Is Controlled?
Niranjan: good morning doctor. I am a healthy man, 76 years of age. I have been suffering from Type II diabetes mellitus for the past 20 years. I have been prescribed Human mixtard 30/70 taking 30 and 20 units daily. But my sugar level is down to 65 in the morning and never higher than 140 during the day. Should I reduce the dose ? Also my B.P. is 170/80-90 and Ihave been prescribed Maxovas .2 and Dytor 5 mg. twice daily. Is it necessary ? I am 5 6 in height and weigh about 158 lbs. for the past so many years. My lft and kft and glycol hb reports are all normal.
If you have adequate beta cell reserves in your body, which is responsible for production of insulin then even if you stop the human mixtard 30/70 you can control blood sugars with the help of oral drugs.
As your age is high and the duration of diabetes is more, it is not ideal to reduce the dosages of human mixtard because oral drugs are not safe in elderly patients.
Your blood pressure is also high, reduction in the doses might worsen the blood pressure recordings.
Taking all these things into concern it is ideal to continue human mixtard doses as such.
Thanks
