Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can I take Augmentin concurrently with Doxycycline? Was prescribed 6-months course of Doxycycline 100mg BD for acne, at the last week now. I have had a sore throat with tenderness behind my left ear, along with fever for the past three days, can I take Augmentin? And how long should the course be?
Though you can currently using doxycyline for acne, this antibiotics is also used to treat other infections including throat infections with strep.
Strep is the bacteria that most commonly causes throat infections, augmentin would be used to treat this type of throat infection. This means that there is no need to add an additional antibiotic.
If your sore throat is due to a bacterial infection, the doxycycline should help.
Most sore throats are due to viral infections however.
I hope this helps
