Can I Take Sitagluptin And Metaformin Instead Of Metaformin/Janumet?
Hi, I am having diabetes type 2 for last over 20 years. I was taking Zoryl 3mg x 2 times and Metaformin 1000 mg x2 times, But a few months back I was found having blood sugar level 160/170 in fasting and doctor gave me for morning metaformin with 50 mg janumet after food and other medicines as such ( that is Zoryl Glimperide x 2 times before food and Metaformin 1000 mg + 50 mg Sitagulptin (Janumet) for morning plain metaformin 1000 mg for night after food + 1 tablet Amlopress 5 for the morning. But after taking metaformin with janumet my blood sugar came down to 70 and I was sweating and feeling weak. Then I stopped metaformin with janumet was taking plain metaformin for all these days but the sugar level rose to 180 in the morning before food. Then I started metaformin with janumet again 3 days back and today morning the blood sugar is 135. If I take the same medicine again today after food I fear sugar will come down to 70 or and or lower. Can I take Sitagluptin 25 mg and metaformin instead combined metaformin/janumet?
As per your query you are taking Janumet, which is a combination of metformin 500 mg and sitagliptin 50 mg which is usually advised to take two times a day.
Usually sitagliptin and metformin wont cause hypoglycemia because it increases the glucose dependent insulin secretion which does not cause hypoglycemia in many times
Secondly you can take this combination of this drug for a long time because it does not cause beta cell exhaution.
Thirdly control blood pressure and other parameters.
Thanks
