Can I Take Amoxicillin For Ear Pain, Plugged Sensation, Wax Build Up And Discharge After Irrigation Of Ears?
I went to urgent care on Thursday due to ear pain and a plugged feeling. They told me it was a wax build up and irrigated my ears. Friday the pain increased. I went back and they gave me amoxicillin. Saturday I woke with a painful side of my face, popping in my ear, and then discharge. It was clear. The pain has continued as well as the discharge. Sunday there was a little blood in it and now it is a greenish yellow. What could be going on?
I have understood your problem. You ear canal seems to be infected either primarily due to wax or due to the cleaning. Since you have already started on antibiotics you can do these:
-wait for a week or so for the pain to become better
- if the pain increases you may need to take injectables also
-if the pain still does not subside and the discharge increases then you must take a culture and sensitivity test of the discharge and get back to me or any ENT with the report
- Do not take head bath and do not put any ear drops for a week and keep the ear completely dry
when you have infection some amount of discharge is normal and some amount of bleeding is also normal. However if the pain and bleeding is more then you must consult an ENT surgeon immediately
Hope this helps and hope you get well soon
