Can I Take Birth Control Pills After My Period Started?
Hi! I plan to take pills because my husband is coming this august 8 and I don't want to get pregnant. It says there that you have to take the pill on the first day of your period. The problem is I just had my menstruation last July 20. Can I still take the pills? Thanks!
To achieve effective contraception you have to start the pills within first three days of the menstrual cycle.
If you start between 3rd to 7th day, you have to use additional method of contraception like barrier methods for one week along with pills, for effective protection.
And it is not useful to start the pills after 7th day of the menstrual cycle. Instead you can use other methods like:
-Barrier methods like male or female condoms, spermicidal jelly etc
-Ovulation test kits to predict ovulation and avoiding intercourse during that period etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
