Can I Take Iron, Multivitamins When On Medication For Heart Attack?
My husband is taking the following medications following heart attack last July: Brilinta, Bisoprolol, Atorvastatin &81mg Coated ASA. He was lately prescribed Synthroid and the pharmacist told him to take it 2 hours before food and his other meds. I know that he can't take iron, multivitamins with it, but can he take it with his other meds? At present, because of certain commitments, he is waking at 6am to take the synthroid. Pat.
Dear pat, synthyroid should always be taken every morning empty stomach and no other medicines should be taken with it. Your husband can take iron and multivitamin after lunch and dinner. Never give iron on empty stomach. Remember to keep a gap of two hours between iron and milk and milk preparations as iron binds with calcium in them and doesn't get absorbed. That is also reason for not taking iron and calcium together. Please check contents of your multivitamin tablet and avoid one with vitamin e in it as it can cause blood thinning, your huhusband is already taking aspirin for thinning of blood.
