Hi, i am pregnant , 37 weeks. 2 days ago i have started taking penicillin v fot tooth abscess prescribed by my dentist .from yesterday my cheeck has strted swolling steady, this morning i can feel that the infection goes down my trHoat. What should i expect from the dentist? I will call her as soon as they are open. Thank you very much!
Hi From your notes it is clear that the abscess is increasing in size and not responding to the treatment. Penicillin is a very safe drug during pregnancy. Please visit your dentist as soon as they are open. This abscess needs to be drained. She may also change the antibiotics too. Many antibiotics are safe in pregnancy and your doctor will know. For pain use acetaminophen. Don't use Ibuprofen or Indomethacin as these drugs can sometimes cause constriction of fetal ductus arteriosis affecting the blood circulation in the baby.
