Can Ibuprofen Be Taken While On Prednisone And Plaquenil?
My daughter is 16 and currently taking endone for pain relief. she is also taking prednisone and plaquenil for cutaneous lupus. We want to stop taking the endone and want to know what other pain meds we can use. Can she take ibuprofen with the prednisone and plaquenil?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It's not safe to take Ibuprofen while on Prednisone. Taking Ibuprofen together with Prednisone may increase the risk of side effects in the gastrointestinal tract such as inflammation, bleeding, ulceration, and perforation. You should take these medications with food or proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole to lessen the risk. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
