Can Ipratropium Be Used For Productive Cough While Having Congestive Heart Failure?
my husband has congestive heart failure and although he is doing well on all his medication, he has the remains of a bad cold and a tough productive cough. I have an Ipatropium that is delivered as a nebulizer, would you think it would help him and is it safe for him to use. I use it for my asthma as I am allergic to Albutrol.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Ipatropium is a bronchodilator which helps in opening up of medium and large airways in lungs. It is used to treat the symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma. It would only improve pulmonary function, but may not help directly in improving the condition related to congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure needs to be treated using cardiotonic drugs and diuretics. It needs to be monitored during the course of treatment. Kindly consult Physician promptly in this regard for appropriate clinical evaluation and proper management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
