Can Klebsiella Pneumoniae Infection Be Contracted Through Oral Sex?

Hello, I wanted to ask if klebsiella can be transmitted by oral sex. My partner got it 3 days after we were close, but never had intercourse, just oral sex. I do not have any symptoms but he got an infection on his pines. Please advise me if I should get tested. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

Klebsiella infections is spread through exposure to the bacteria via respiratory tract, which causes pneumonia, or the blood to cause an infection in the blood-tream.

Klebsiella infections are most well-known in hospitals spread through person-to-person contact by contaminated hands of surrounded people in the hospitals.

However, klebsiella is spread very easily and rapidly, but I really doubt it can be spread through oral sex. Also no case has been reported to me with klebsiella infection through oral sex yet.

You may go for routine blood works with blood culture in case you have doubts to clear.

Consult infectious disease specialist for further advise.
