Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can lexapro give you manic incessant talking I have noticed lately that I have been talking over people and too much filling in the voids and not really listening to them talk. I feel manic. Currently taking lexapro. My normal is not constant chatter, but I did always have a problem listening to long conversations. I feel this it s a manic thing happening to me like a tick.
Lexapro is an SSRI called escitalopram. It is usually used for the treatment of anxiety or depression. Individuals who have had past episodes of mania or hypo mania or if depressive symptoms are intermittent, Lexapro can bring about mania. I would suggest you have a visit or a video consultation with a psychiatrist to get a detailed history and assess if you are at risk for mania. If this is the case, Lexapro would need to be discontinued and you may need alternate medications.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
