hi Just wondering whether Minocycline or Bactrim would be more safe or less side effects for my 16 yr old son prescribed both for his acne? hes currently on minocycline but finishing script and not sure whether to get repeat on this or try Bactrim script. He's had 1 month of Minocycline so far and acne marginally better.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son has acne on face which is due to hormonal changes, clogged pores of salivary glands and due to dead skin. Minocycline or Bactrim as advised to you are fine for acne treatment. If your symptoms starts improving that is best otherwise you can start with alternate treatment by washing your face with mild soap and cold water twice a day , exfoliate your face once a week. you should apply aloe vera gel and apply azelaic acid containing cream twice a day as this is safe and natural extract of cereals. Apply Clindamycin gel and Benzoyl peroxide containing gel over the acne. Avoid any steroid based cream. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit dermatologist once and get it examined and go for micro-abrasion and chemical peeling. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
