Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was prescribe Amitiza today. I read that one side effect is a tightness in the chest which I don t like. Also shortness of breath. Would Mayalax would work just as good instead of taking this medication. Please call me at 770 895 9991. My name is Stephen
It is not reported to cause tightness in the chest as a side-effect. Mayalax is a herbal preparation composed of Cassia Angustifolia, Rhamnus Purshiani Cortex, Aloe Barbedenisis, Collinsonia Canadensis, Hydrastis. It is also indicated for use in acute and chronic constipation.
Mayalax can be used instead of Amitiza if your constipation is opioid-induced. Kindly follow the medication as prescribed by your doctor and do the necessary follow-up as advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
