Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How long is it safe to take musinex. I have bad asthma and when I have a lung infection, I usually have to take 2 rounds of antibiotics with a span on the side. It usually doesn t completely clear it up and I have to take musinex for awhile to get deep down infection and mucus. Please advise
Mucinex (Guaifenesin) is an expectorant. It loosens up thick mucous and helps in clearing of mucous. This medication is used to reduce the amount of thick mucous and decrease the symptoms. As it is a symptomatic treatment, you need to take it only when you have symptoms. Taking it without any symptoms is not required at all and will not help also. You can also take it alongside your antibiotics course also for better clearance of mucous. You can discuss the above information with your healthcare provider. Hope the above information helps you. Thank you.
