Can Neosporin Be Applied On An Infected Wound?

I cut my leg about 8 days ago and went to ER and got 10 stitches for it in my right shin. I am on Keflex and was at dr yesterday and he removed 3 stitches and put on steri sstrips in there place. My wound site is red, swollen and bleeds alittle. Can I put Neosporin on it and cover it or should I leave it dry?
