Can Neosporin Be Used On Stitches On Forehead?

Yesterday, I slipped and fell down my stairs and hit my forehead on my door lock. This left a deep cut and I had gotten stitches. The doctor said it was dissolvable stitches and would dissolve in five days. I am just not sure if I should clean the cut with a saline solution now or if I should start putting neosporin and covering it with a bandage now. Do I have to wait the five days until the stitches are dissolved?
