Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was given 48 hours of methylprednisolone (3 does of 32 mg) as a pre-med pack to avoid a reaction to MRI contrast. I have been diabetic for 10 years normally requiring about 5 does of Novolog per day. (ave. 8 units) My numbers are normally great 90-150 for blood YYYY@YYYY . The past three days I am close to 300 and Novolog seems to RAISE MY BLOOD SUGAR? I took a shot with 14 units after a reading of 284 and 3-4 hours later with zero food I am even higher?? Good news is that my MRI is over and so is Methlyprednisolone. Now I am scared to eat anything or take my Novolog shots.....what should I do?
Hey, you dont need to worry. Methylprednisilone can increaae your sugars and can diaturb your diabetic control. They can even cause it uptil 48 hours after you stopped them. So good thing is you have stopped them, now continue with your regular insulin dosages of Novolog. your sugars should get better in a day or two. Let me know if it doesnt get better.
Have a nice day ahead.
Regards, Dr. Munaim
