Can PET Scans Be Done While On A Spinal Cord Stimulator?
I am looking at having a nerve stimulator put into my spinal cord due to problems with a back surgery and fibromyalgia. I saw that having this implant prevents me from having an MRI. I have lymphoma which is in remission. The oncologist orders PET scans to check for reoccurrence. Will that be a problem with this implant?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Ideally all metallic objects have to removed before taking a PET scan because it may affect the quality of the films. But it won’t harm you unless MRI where such implants may endanger your life. You go for the PET scan with implant in place.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
