Can Prednisolone Cause Osteoporosis And Severe Pain In Leg And Its Treatment?
Dear Doctors, Kindly advise me. I have Eosiniphil for the last 25 years. The count was below 10% inthe beginning. Later it was 44% with severe pain in the leg. My family doctor prescribed Prednisolone 60 mg. daily. the tablet was tapered to 7.5 mg. daily. I have been taking this tablet for the last 20 years. Due to this drug I got Osteoporosis and was operated with Hip Replacement. My question is Do you have any other alternative drug besides Prednisolone (due to bad side effects). Regards. Zarin P.S. Hello,
Glucocorticoids cause osteoporosis. They should be given from the start with an adjuvant treatment to prevent it from happening, as vitamin D and Calcium. Now, because the osteoporosis is already there the treatment should be more specific, as for example with Bisphosphonates.
